When you cross the road, look right, then left, then right again before you cross the road. And if you happen to be jay-walking, do it smartly. Don't be shifting your attention to the other stuff, but rather, check if the car approaching from a distance, IS GOING TO RUN YOU DOWN. Its been proven, that our brain maximises its functions, whilst jay-walking. You measure the pace of your steps, the speed of the oncoming vehicle, the distance you have to cross, the time you need to avoid getting hit etc etc.
Well, it doesn't bode well when you get a phonecall whilst showering, about how your sibling got run down by a motorbike. It kinda scares the shit out of you. Sure, you may dismiss it as a motorbike, but there could be other factors too, like oncoming traffic and the condition of the motorist.
In this case, thankfully, both came out with scratches and bruises, with no severe injuries. Thanks too, to those who were expressing their concern on MSN as well as on the phone. She's doing fine, and should be ok in no time.
So, the next time, if you really want to jay-walk, look right, left then right again before you cross. Or you could also be like me, the type who rarely jay-walks, and follows the traffic rules. Hey, there are traffic lights and over-head bridges for a reason too you know.
