Shopping with the Thief..Everything seems to be coming real thick and fast. Tests, assignments, presentations, exams. Once again, we all enter crunch time.
Oh well, its good to take a well-deserved break after awhile la. Met up with Gomathief(heh!) today, and did some shopping. The last time I actually went shopping with a girl, ie me shopping for clothes, was ironically, with her primary school classmate, Ms Tanya Ling.
Hah, but this gal, she knows her stuff man. And shows me the best deals around, stuff you can get at really low prices.. Bought this really nice shirt, or you could call it a top, which was only what, 34 bucks? Pretty good deal, if you ask me. At JL. Of course, chosen by the erm, Almigthy herself. Tsk..
Then at Cafe Cartel, she nicely kicks my leg and then bursts out laughing. Grrr. I mean, bearing in mind I had a hamstring injury, she nicely brings me on a shopping cum walking spree right from Topman at Wisma, till PS.
Of course, we had our wonderful chats there. But this girl, she reminds me of a certain someone, and like I told her earlier, IT ISN'T QUITE A GD THING.. That person being, Aisha. The similarities are scarily uncanny in resemblance. Mannerisms especially. Tsk..
Oh well, its back to that hell-hole I call school tomorrow. Notice how I am beginning to loathe school. Can't wait for the holidays..
Arghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

Monster Magnet..Those who have ever recalled listening to Monster Magnet, or for the matter, known of their existence, put your hands up. I'm guessing not many hands went up there eh?
Ah, expected actually. I mean, with music becoming bloody mainstreamed, you just fail to listen to the good shit out there. Monster's definitely one of them.
Again, heard of the genre, Stoner Rock?? Aye, its a form of rock that fuses slow-to-mid tempo, bassy guitar riffs, psychedelic jams (think Jimi Hendrix), melodic and often slightly raspy vocals(Motorhead comes to mind). Not forgetting its constant reference to Marijuana (Black Sabbath - Sweet Leaf).
I got introduced to Monster Magnet during my time in NS, when the B-U-D-D-Y back in OCS would be blasting their greatest hits cd for the platoon to hear. And like my love with Oasis, I instantly fell in love with them. Their riffs, and especially their catchy outros, amazing stuff.
Wrestling fans, Matt Hardy's entrance theme, is a number by Monster Magnet. I recall sending Powertrippin' once to a female friend, and she got a good shock about ten seconds into the song. Sean too, loves their riffs and often keeps asking, "Dude, when are we doing Powertrippin'??".
So whilst everyone is sucking up the heat, especially when tests and assignments are coming in thick and fast, not forgetting the exams that are edging ever so near, here are some songs that would probably entertain you. Cheers.
1) Live for the Moment
2) Spacelord
3) Powertrippin'
4) Silver Future (my fav!)
5) Slut Machine
PS Here's the latest on Monster Magnet.
On February 27, 2006 Dave Wyndorf(Lead) overdosed on drugs. His management released the following statement:-
The battle with one’s inner demons is the most personal fight any of us can undertake. The fight is at times a lonely, confusing journey. On the evening of February 27, Dave Wyndorf suffered a set back in his own fight and was hospitalized due to a drug overdose. His full recovery is expected. We ask that all those he has encountered over the years or simply affected by his music to take a moment to think good thoughts of and for him. With the grace of God and those who love him we are all confident that Dave will rebound from this set back and continue to play and make great rock and roll.

Hey no we don't let go we all need a daddy
Live in the mirror baby you are the dream
You smash that fucker now and you'll get so clean
Come on and show me what drives your machine

The Dragon Awakens Part 2..Aye, good to see the tagboard filling up quite fast, with comments related to Uncle Gary's mass email. In fact, his email saga even made a page's report on today's edition of The New Paper.
Now, lets cut to the chase. You have to admit, Gary did bring up some pretty good points. Hall conditions and especially, the hike in school fees. The latter, true, according to CNA, we may not seem to bother about it. Truth be told, there are those of us, who are coming to school, thanks to that bond which the bank, or for the matter, a loan pays us. To say that we do not bother about it, would be an understatement. But, at the end of the day, we all try finding means to cover the hike. Having a protest about it, that too, an open one, would be rather daft.
Next up, the standard of English used by our lecturers. He was pretty smart, to have added the following phrase: "I know I do not use good English", in order to prevent a further rap here. English proficiency, is a
good-to-have, but
not a must-have. I recall reading somewhere, that the rankings of the universities, is done based on the academic progress of graduates, and their success rate at finding a job upon graduation,
NOT ON THE STANDARD OF ENGLISH USED.True, as JJ and Sadhana mentioned, we do have our overseas lecturers. But you cannot possibly blame them, if they happen to have a strong accent, or if their pronounciation is bad in itself. Ultimately, they were all taught that way, back in their native countries. Singaporean lecturers-wise, I believe the lecturers and tutors who have taught me thus far, have been known to use a reasonable standard of English. In short, one that is
COMPREHENDIBLE..
By replacing a lecturer with someone who is far more eloquent, does not mean an increase in As in the cohort. Its common-sense, that it is up to the individual and his/her ability to comprehend the lesson. Besides, we do have foreign students, and throwing in an eloquent tutor/lecturer would further confuse them, bearing in mind most of them had to take an English proficiency test upon entering NTU. So that request, is just plain selfish, and dare I say, redundant.
Finally, there are the living conditions of the hall. I can only think of Hall 7 being the problematic hall, because they now lack drinking water supply. As for the rest, I am pretty sure they are decent enough, barring a few defects. C'mon, if anything, live and let live. The authorities over at my hall conduct checks rather frequently, so I do not see why the question on living conditions need to be brought up. In fact, we had our chairs changed, with the supposed SGD200 ones. Hey, welfare what? That's one way of improving living condititons eh?
I am very sure, that our Student Union is there, for a reason, and not to just give away "goodie bags, free ice creams, free T-shirt, free this free that". Lets give them credit, they have done quite a bit so far, and to ask for more, is rather shameless.
Therefore, Mr Gary, you come across, as a really huge whiny. There are proper channels to feedback such stuff to the school, and I am very sure, mass-emailing the whole school is NOT ONE OF THEM. That, clearly, is unethical. Sums up the amount of respect you have for the school.
To sum up sentiments in school, we aren't really bothered about his wide-spread calls for protest. As Mr Tan Woon Lea said to the TNP, "Singaporean students will not bother and foreign students are too busy. We are all apathetic."
