Kewell and Riise - the next MnMs??I began fervently supporting the Reds, on that fateful evening, when Liverpool lifted the League Cup, in 1995. See, my cousin, a huge Pool fan, began telling me about how Liverpool was a really good team, though it was Utd then, grabbing the headlines. So, I decided to take the League cup final, which was against Bolton then, to be the deciding match. Pool went on to dazzle in the game, with one particular Steve McManaman at the helm of play.
That summer, Liverpool signed a rightback from that Bolton team, and together with Macca, went on, to provide arguably the best right-sided attacks, in the EPL. Yep, I am referring to Jason Mcateer. It was the right mix, McManaman's flair, with Mcateer's directness. Woah, forget God, or even St Michael, it was the whole, Macca show. People then, had their dream teams, with Giggs on the left, and Macca on the right.
First forward to last night, and it was like travelling back in time, albeit the switch in flanks. Am of course, referring to the Kewell and Riise tandem. If there was ever a player, outside of Liverpool, whom I liked quite a lot, it had to be Harry. That gifted left leg of his, and his wizadry with the ball. Wizard of Oz, an apt title indeed.
He hadn't quite been the same player, since joining Liverpool from Leeds. Till Rafa came along. You just have this quiet belief about the man, I mean, noone saw a different side to Igor Biscan, till El Benito arrived. That, in itself, speaks volumes. It was just a matter of time, and once Harry got into the act, the consistency was all, but much needed. And I believe, it has arrived, at the right time.
Such an amazing performance from him last night, running rings round the fullbacks. Suddenly, the dude that produced the video featured above, must feel like a fool. Add to his combo, with the Norwegian Hammer, I boldly state, that they are
THE BEST LEFT WING TANDEM, in the EPL, at present. And I stand, to be corrected.
Good on ya, mate. Now, if only Australia can defy the odds, and go past the group stages. That would of course, mean upsetting, Brazil themselves. Hmmm...
No comments on that. =)
