When Innocence Prevailed...I chanced upon a dear friend's (Sadhana) blog earlier, in which, she had reminisced her childhood in an entry. The nostalgia just brought back fond memories of mine, and since this is kinda, my little spot to rant and write, why not one about my childhood. Especially when its halftime now, between the Yellow Submarine and the Gooners.
My best days, were definitely, during my primary school days. Just the amount of fun I had, tremendous and memorable. I recall having a conversation with Yanling a few days back, about her primary school days, and was rather appalled, at the amount of gossip and malice that happened there. Perhaps, a girls' school sentiment, as shared by my sister earlier on.
I was from an all boys school, so it was just one thing in our heads, throughout those 6 years, lotsa fun, and pranks. Those afternoons, where my neighbour, Alvin and I would go up to the 13th floor, and pelt eggs down on unsuspecting victims. I used to stay at Telok Blangah and the lifts there, stop at the 1st(duh!), 5th, 9th and 13th floor. Alvin stayed on the 10th floor, me on the 11th. To avoid detection, we'd go up to the 13th, albeit stealing some eggs from the kitchen, and start throwing them. Till one day, my mum noticed that the eggs at home were decreasing at an alarming rate, and my dad caught us in the act. Heh, what followed next, was a week of not being able to meet the partner-in-crime. So the next best thing we did, open our doors, and shout at each other, asking what the other was doing (those flats were the type where you had two units facing each other on every floor). Good times.
Not forgetting school. I remember hating going to school then. One thing's never changed over the years though, my love for FRIDAY. Back then, it was like the Sabbath or something. Like you can see the weekend coming up, and not go to school. Why I hated school then? Aye, not that I didn't have friends. But rather, I just hated the idea, of going to school, having teachers that fling your exercise book at you, or at times, out of the class, and worse, getting scolded. Heh..
But my class, simply brilliant. Recall avid tagger JJ?? Yeah, he was my classmate for 6 years. Mr Blackjack, Haydon Roy (Ah-Loy!!) being another. We were quite the class clowns then. See, Roy and I, we used to go for Tamil classes at the old ACS near Fort Canning, on Saturdays, and that was where, our friendship was forged. Not forgetting how we were having tuition under my dad, and we'd always be clowning around at home, before getting punished either with a whack on the knuckles, or stand throughout the lesson.
In fact, our whole class had this gang feel to it, where we were very united. I guess that had to do, with our form tutor, Mr(now a Bro) Jeffrey Chan. Our PE lessons, not only the usual soccer and basketball on that sloping hill at Bukit Permai, but also, ARMY SONGS!!! YES!! We were made to run in-step, and sing C130 rollin down the street, at our school courtyard, during PE. Not only that, monkey bars, learning to walk up and down a steep slope, and climbing over gates. Haha, all thanks to that one man, who was our form tutor.
If you thought the teacher was eccentric, our class had quite the characters too. There was Sean Padman, whom everyone didn't grow to like, but being the nice guy that I was, tried to be his friend. Though his biggest old piece, was convincing me, that Steve McManaman was his cousin. Yeah rite. Or like how he once wanted to commit suicide during Malay class, and till today, that whole event just cracks me up.
And then, there was Sherman. People, if you happen to know, a Sherman, height probably short and tubby, looks Melayu-ish, has a younger brother, PLS DO INFORM ME!!! See, once in Pri 6, this guy comes up to me, and starts crying. I ask him, what happened. And he tells me, my mother did not give me money for recess, and I am hungry. So I lend him 5 dollars, and told him to return it to me, at the end of the week. Eversince then, he has YET to return it, t o me!! Heh, and then I hear from Luke (my pot dealer) that he pulled the same stunt on him too. Jensen got it worse though, he got scolded by his mum, for supposed-bullying.
Nonetheless, I am pretty glad, that I have kept in touch, with almost half my class, either on MSN, or on the phone. We sure had good times then, and looking back, I hold absolutely no regrets. Its like, the title suggest, when innocence prevailed. Noone had malicious intentions, if at the very least, one that ended up being either a prank, or just a silly rivalry.
Oh well, now that's a done topic, time to head back to the tv.
