It only takes a spark...More often than not, we find ourselves, in adversities one can hardly imagine. In some cases, it becomes a case of life and death. It cannot get even better, especially when the situation reaches its terminal stages, and it is only a matter of months, before you leave the world.
It then dawned upon me, despite all these circumstances, what could be the reason, for us to prevail, even if it is a lose-lose situation. Only two words popped up like the little green soldier that blinks on your TV everytime there is an active mobilisation underway - HUMAN SPIRIT.

How then, do you define this entity, that keeps us going. My theory, revolves around two factors, me and you. First, lets talk about Me. Suppose, I get diagnosed with a disease, that probably gets the doctor telling, "Son, I'm afraid you've got less than a year to live. I'm really sorry, but this is the best, we could do." Ever thought what you'd do in such a situation?
I'd say, the usual denial-dejection-understanding-acceptance scenario takes place. Eventually, one will have to dig deep for his/her inner source of strength, to undertake the "understanding" part, in order to "accept" one's fate. Only if you take the first step, then are you able to draw strength from the others. Not only that, turning to one's God, is a way, of drawing strength. Some things, we call it miracles, you just cannot explain. Like an elderly lady who was in the terminal stages of cancer, with her immense faith in God, the cancerous cells just disappeared. This, is a true story.
Of course, you cannot forget the second part of my theory, YOU. Again, lets throw a similar situation, this time, its your friend that gets the depressing news. As a friend, it is our moral right, to be there for this person. And especially, to reassure him/her. Reassurance goes a long way, in making one person draw strength to overcome such adversities. You not only give him strength, you also show him/her that you have a genuine interest too.
Ultimately, you do see the Human Spirit prevailing in such situations. And it just makes your goosebumps stand, just like how Robert Langdon finally finds Mary Madgalene's resting place. Yeah, I spoilt it for you all Da Vinci fans. HARH HARH..
