NDP Tickets - To cash in, or not???I believe the days of standing in line, outside the National Stadium just to get your hands onto NDP tickets, are long gone. E-Balloting, they call it. Just a few clicks on the
NDP site, and you are in with a shout on getting yourself a few NDP Tickets.
Many would have read, either on
STOMP or in today's ST Home, that there've been a huge uproar with regards to NDP tickets being auctioned off on eBay and the sorts. And so, it wasn't much of a surprise, when a good friend from HOME, Jessica came by and asked me about my comments. See, I was given a buzz a couple of weeks back, being informed that I had gotten myself a pair of NDP tix - of course they need to give it to me, Mr NDP comes back once every yr, and so too, we remember Rosemarie, with heartfelt grief.
My take on this is simple. Why create a huge furore, when the terms and conditions that accompanied the package, did not state that they cannot be auctioned off? Mr NDP, during his heyday at NDP 05, foresaw this problem, and had brought it up to his boss. To which, he was told, "Its a good suggestion, but this is beyond our payscale. Lets see what Commander says.". Mr NDP never heard anything from it since then. Perhaps, a little more clarity on this issue SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN, prior to at least, the first Media Brief. I can just picture the chaos going through, when their Focus Group Meetings take place.
As to whether I would auction off my tickets, hmm, perhaps, for next year's parade. The reason's simple, my mum. She's had this undying wish to attend at least one parade live, so being Mr Filial Piety, I've decided to bring her along. Plus a cousin of mine's in the GOH ranks with the Airforce. So its gonna be another mini family gathering, at Kallang.
Moral of the story: Everything, has a price..

Going Under...Haiyah, just after I write about Korea, Australia have to shoot themselves in the foot and get booted out. Oh well, the funniest part was what my sis did prior to the penalty.
In the 91st min,
Niva: What did you buy?
Pa: Draw and Aust eat ball.
Niva: Wah, Anneh's tips quite good ah.. Nvm la, sure can win.
TV: PENALTYYYY!!!!
A few seconds later, GOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL....
Pa: Thanks ah..
Welcome to my life..
And there I was, screaming at the telly, "WHERE'S KEWELL??". Having forgotten our friend was in crutches prior to the game..

Puma Jerseys...I recall reading a friend's blog, whereby he stated that the Puma Jerseys seem to look the best of the lot in the World Cup. Aesthetic was the word he coined, when describing them. Only upon close scrutiny, did I realise how true, he might be. Whoever thought only Nike and Adidas produced the design-savvy jerseys..
Check it out!!!
Cote D' Voire (Ivory Coast)
Poland
Togo
Switzerland
And finally, the one that I'm most definitely gonna get..
GHANA!!!!
Nice or what??
Though the downside of these jerseys - they seem to absorb gallons of sweat.. Wonder what look Puma is going for..

No more banging of the drums, no more DAE HA MING KUK chants..
Oh well, France and Spain made it thru. And how apt, they face each other...
Let us all, share the grief, of Asia's only decent representative..
Oh, I forgot, Australia is now part of Asia, as according to AFC rules. WOO HOO...

What Do Women Really Want...Dun the male species always get bugged by this question, when it comes to anything under the sun?? Be it a simple gift, an argument or a discussion.
I came across this forum section in STOMP, where this dude was planning to get something for his gf, but did not know what to get her. He'd wanted it to be surprise, for the gf too. The comments came pouring in.
One suggested getting her flowers. Which comes to my main confusion. Do girls really dig flowers?? In my entire 22 years of existence, and counting, barring for Mummy, I've gotten flowers for girls on three occasions. And after one occasion, the girl broke up with me. haha.
So the next best person I could pose this question too, was the kway teow that sits next to me.
Me: Do women really like flowers?
Yanz: haha, yes. Who you getting for? Some hot chick riiight? tsk.
Me: Aye, noone la. Read sthg off stomp, that's why. About how it can be sweet at times, to give flowers to the girl almost every other time you meet. Won't she get sian? I definitely would ah..
Yanz: Yeah. I have to say I like it too. Even though its a terrible waste of money and they die 3 days later. STILL.... nice what.
Me: Right. So what if a guy gives you artificial flowers instead? Would you think that the intentions are fake??
Yanz: Haha, I guess it depends la. The real thing will always be better even though they die like soon. But artificial flowers last forever. Wooo.. plus for exotic flowers that're not available in Singapore i guess i'd settle for bloody fake ones ah.
Me: Hmm, interesting.
Yanz: Then there are the stuffed ones?? the toy ones, those are CUTE!!!
Me: what the.. Now you know why we are definitely celebrating your 21st party at MacDonalds?? Complete with Ronald and Hamburglar flanking you as you cut your cake. tsk tsk..
Flowers, are just but the tip of the iceberg. There are more, but my storeroom awaits.
Now, to my pet peeve. What's up with fans coming up on CNA, during the sports highlights, shouting out how their team's gonna be the World Champs. Just today, one Ghanaian was shouting away, "I'm very sure, that we will be the champs. I am very, very sure, that we will win it. It is our destiny". Right, and I'm sure Brazil will lay down for your destiny. Tsk tsk.

My June Holiday Scrapbook...A lil primary schoolish, but what the heck. And most of the personnel would be rather repeated. Oh well, that sums up our thick bonds. Heh, no references to Naren now..
And unlike Xiaxue, I do not painstakingly do all the photoshopping and what-nots. WHY?? Simple..
I have given up learning how to use that program. Harh..
Raj Anna's Wedding Reception...And what was the first thing that strikes you in this pic?? Heh.. Meet the Telok Blangah Centre Sai Centre Alumnus..
Of course, we couldn't leave out our dear Anu, especially when most of the shots here were from her "dappa" camera. Still, we love you.. =)
Nice saree eh? Suri got it for her, on her bday, and the day she wore it, was on his birthday..
Suresh's Belated Surprise Party @ Sathis' place..
Now THAT'S the look of surprise we often expect, from such parties.
Time: 3am
At ease, soldier!!
Being a commando means, you sometimes try to do things that are out of the ordinary..
In this case, cake-cutting..
Shortly after this picture was taken, Anu began blabbering nonsense in her half-sleepy state, and had to be escorted home..
Next morning, at 9am, she appears outside Sathis' gate.. Tsk tsk..
Sathis' Big Day - COMMISSIONING LOH!!!!
When Karthik holds the PSP, everyone watches in awe..
And now, introducing Mr Ayyanaar aka Naren (the dude on my left)..
The proud parents.. =)
And Satti sticks out of line.. Haw haw..

Team of the Moment..Forget Brazil, Argentina and the likes.
This is, the team to beat, as of now.
Perhaps France can finally take a backseat, in terms of vehement support in this World Cup. This team just plays a lot like Liverpool (surprise!!!), incisive passing and excellent movement. Though they could do with more strikers in the mould of Torres.
Then there is Luis Garcia. Love him or hate him, he just pulls out the rabbit off the hat just when you least expect it. One of my favorites, so far.
Then of course, you have lots more talent in the team, like Alonso's radar-like passing, Senna's shooting, Villa's pace and Puyol being the rock at defence.
Oh well, 13 minutes to make their mark in the World Cup. And what a result that turned out to be. WOO HOO..

A Melancholy Town where We never Smile..Up till recently, my holidays have been going great. And I have people like Prabhu, Sathis, Naren, Suresh and especially Anu (heh, PORUKKI!) for that. Then, there's the tv till recently, work, and the kids. Just about it.
Yet, something's amiss. Very amiss. Like how a few people around me have suddenly shown a change in attitudes, or just went AWOL. In that, you give 'em a buzz or an sms, you rarely get a reply or conversations are just, never the same again. This makes it a whole lot more, boring and to some extent, irritating. You never know what killed that chemistry between you and your friend, or the lack of a certain transparency that only the above-mentioned fivesome seem to share with me.
Fucked up. Worse, they give you this whole, "you approach and talk to me, i'll consider speaking with you" notion. Oh well, don't care also la. If these clowns wanna act this way, its just only right that I behave likewise. Towards them.
My life, has just made me evolve into some kinda machine. Going through the motions - wake up, head to work, go home, sleep. A possible outing squeezed in between, voila, you got my day there. Suddenly, I await school with open arms.
Anywayz,
STOMP is finally up. One of our biggest projects for the year. Had a press conference today, and got to see the MTV Twins and Dawn Yang up close. Ms Plastic sure has scary eyes, whilst deep down, I was hoping something plastic drops off her face. The lass probably splashed half her compact powder on her face, and I was tempted to touch it, just hoping (again) that the powder cracks up and drops off in chunks.
Do check it out.

Political Awareness or Myopia???I actually thought of running this entry prior to Polling Day; some may recall the supposed part 2 that never came out then. Credit to Peter Khoo, former Sports Editor of ST (Straits Times, duh?) and Vice Editor of ST, Head (ST Projects Division), who sparked this entry back to life. Pete's one of the few bosses that I hold very much in high regard, along the likes of BG Loh and LTC Francis Yee. In fact, Mr SPH got reinstated back thanks to Pete, who called him up personally. For that, our superhero holds him in high regard too. ;)
Right, moving on. As many may already know, the PAP got an average of 66% of the votes as a whole, and doing your math, that works out to 34% to the Opposition. Justified? I doubt so. Comparing the average talent pool and credibility that the Opposition gave this Elections, 34% was a rather high figure. Think about it, would you trust your organisation (ie SPH, Ministry, NTU, NUS, SMU) to be controlled by someone like Low Thia Kiang or Chiam See Tong, OR a Vivian Balakrishnan or Tharman? No offence to the above-mentioned Opposition members, but we all ultimately want, success right? Looking credibility-wise, Vivian was once CEO of SGH, similarly for Tharman who was CEO of MAS.
So why then, do the Opposition not rope in people of such calibre? Even if there are, they are few and hard to come by. Therein, lies my justification as to why 34% seems an overrated figure, based on this argument. Then again, we often argue that "Its good to bring in the Opposition." or "We want our freedom" or even better, "Give (them) a chance, you may never know". Sadly, as much as the euphoria during such rallies can reach fever pitch, these are all just, crap.
Think about it, we have been riding on past glories. 41 years of peace have roped in countless industries into our country. We have created such a rapid rise in terms of economic scales over the last two decades, only probably matched, by China's globalisation that seems to be a rather scary phenomenon. More on that, later. Its a simple chain,
Peace gives you
Prosperity, which overtime, turns into,
PROGRESS.
Based on the talent pool that the Opposition showed us during the GE, and if they had created the mother of all upsets by ousting PM Lee out (Ang Mo Kio becomes WP Land), that would disrupt some momentum within the economy, in the long run. Why? We do not have a "Vivian" type of politician within the ranks of the opposition, that can guarantee you results when thrown into a certain sector. And when that fails, you have companies pulling out, which spirals downwards from then on.
Take Seagate as an example. An estimate of 15,000 people are employed there. All it takes, is one kway teow, to disrupt the system, or fail to produce improvements. Bam, you have that company pulling out, which leaves 15,000 jobless and in turn, 15,000 families to feed. Then you have to take into consideration, the suppliers of computer chips to that company. Business there is gone, and a certain degree of unemployment occurs. Then the cycle continues.
The next elections, though a good 5 years away, may be a promising one; the candidates the Opposition introduces, the economic climate and stability of our government and people's attitudes are etc. I am Pro-Opposition, no question about it, though I believe that if candidates of a similar degree to this elections contest, then we might be in, for trouble.
Afterall, its a well-known fact that most of our youths are, Pro-Opposition too. We tend to want change, without having the vast scope on implications that may arise from such changes. As Pete puts it, we are at a stage where our youth have become very vocal with their opinions (blogs, forums) on many a topic - a Western Culture - but the irony is, whilst adopting such a culture into this situation, if we end up being myopic to possible consequences, this could drive Western industries and companies back home.
Food for thought. =)

Ms Bona TanThis is a tribute, to the little kway teow(above) who sits next to me in office. The lass loves entertaining angsty callers, just for one reason - to show off her "aggression"!!! Tsk tsk. So what better, than the comic strip below??
Irony - A year ago, I came across this strip and pinned it up on her wall.. Am I good or what??
Panel 1: I've figured out what your problem is, Fauntleroy.
Panel 2: You've got a classic Napolean Complex. You use aggression to compensate for your size.
