I love my friends, aplenty...

Thanks guys, for yesterday..

Especially Satti.. haha..

Speaking of which, I humbly implore to all of you.

NOT TO CATCH AN AMERICAN HAUNTING..

After awhile, twists in a movie do not become appealing, thanks to the influx of such movies, beginning from The Sixth Sense..

Over and out, last call for sin
While everyone's lost, the battle is won
With all these things that I've done
All these things that I've done
If you can hold on
If you can hold on

Sometimes we face trials and tribulations that we wish, and pray, do not fall on our kins and enemies alike..

During such situations, we dig within our own reserves, to pull us out, of whatever we are in..

Some, that we reaped as a result of past actions, others, just a case of bad timing..

Either way, we have to take it in our stride, for it is His Love and Grace (as much as His tests for us) that pull us through, safe and sound..

Which is why, I admire you..

You're amazing la..

And my prayers and love (of a very old son/nephew) will be there for you..

Always..

What is Love??

Is love that thing that makes you want more, after the end of every single date??

Is love that thing whereby you attain bliss everytime you think about it??

Is love that thing where you try not to cheat a certain anatomy in your body??

If so, then I am in love.. =)

With food that is..

Man, I just love my food. Be it Rosti from Marche, Tom Yam Mee Hoon Kway from Banquet (thanks Azman and Farhan for the tip), the Carrot cake from Coffeeshop C in Braddell, the Chicken Rice at Toa Payoh Lor 1 Market, Creamy Chicken Pasta from Pastamania..

The list, just goes on...

Heh, speaking of which, one should try the Hot Chocolate from Marche. Yesterday, Sailaja was the latest to fall victim, to that delightful drink..

After that, it was off to the Esplanade, where the Ma'am-saab started snapping pictures like the excited tourist that she can be.. Sometimes.. Heh..

The Skyline.. Nice, no?

Cat's in the Cradle...

My child arrived just the other day,
He came to the world in the usual way.
But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay.
He learned to walk while I was away.
And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew,
He'd say, "I'm gonna be like you, dad.
You know I'm gonna be like you."

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you coming home, dad?"
"I don't know when,
But we'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then."

My son turned ten just the other day.
He said, "Thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play.
Can you teach me to throw?" I said,
"Not today,I got a lot to do."
He said, "That's ok."
And he walked away,
but his smile never dimmmed,
Said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah.
You know I'm gonna be like him."

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you coming home, dad?"
"I don't know when,
But we'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then."

Well, he came from college just the other day,
So much like a man I just had to say,
"Son, I'm proud of you. Can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head, and he said with a smile,
"What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys.
See you later. Can I have them please?"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then, dad.
You know we'll have a good time then."

I've long since retired and my son's moved away.
I called him up just the other day.
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind."
He said, "I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time.
You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kid's got the flu,
But it's sure nice talking to you, dad.
It's been sure nice talking to you."

And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me,
He'd grown up just like me.
My boy was just like me.

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you coming home, son?"
"I don't know when,
But we'll get together then, dad.
You know we'll have a good time then."

Meet the Cuckoos..

Meeting Anu (not to be associated with the title) is always one filled with lotsa laughs, and at the end of the day, you ponder over certain things. I just cannot believe, that once, we were running around school in uniform, and now, she's out there in the working world. Dishing out financial plans (I badly need 'em.. Pple ard me call me, the perennial spendthrift), and teaching me out to invest. Cool stuff.

But what got me to ponder more, was about courtesy. That Singapore, as according to a Readers Digest poll, rates highly as a DISCOURTEOUS city. FYI, the Big Apple heads this infamous list. It goes alot to show, that as much as we've developed over the years, the very basic thing called courtesy, seems to be somewhat, absent in our society. Why do I say so?

Tell me you've not experienced at least one of the following:-

1) You're at your void deck, walking towards a lift that's just had a couple of people in it. You walk hurriedly towards it, and you find the doors slowly closing, before you. Like macam, you aren't invited to what could be the biggest lift party in ages.

2) You're about to board a bus, during the peak periods. Lotsa people rushing in, equals to lotsa shoving. There are those, who stand at the sides, and try to squeeze into the centre, in order to board the bus. Then, there are those, who could give the likes of Fabio Cannavaro and Jamie Carragher a run for their money. In that, you just are marked out of space, and cannot enter from the sides.

Which is why, it often surprises me why we still aren't in the World Cup, nevermind that I miss that one bus that takes me home.

3) Suppose you make it through, albeit weaving past these passengers. You realise, that there a few seats, with "holes" near the window seats, but fringe seats are taken up. You'd forgive them, if they're lugging along huge-ass bags, that require another seat (though someone forgot to tell 'em that they could place these bags on their laps).

Can someone explain to me, the logic of these "holes"?? Trying to save it for the random hot chic/dude that would enter the bus? Or just, territorising your place?

4) The classic pregnant lady who is left standing in the train, whilst passengers feint to be asleep, or be bo-chap about it.

5) When was the last time someone held the door open for you? Nuff said..

If they did, did you even shoot back a smile/thanks/a kind gesture? Or just walked along, thinking you were royalty?

Amazing. And I put it down to one attitude, predominant amongst us, Singaporeans..

KIASUISM..

Wanting to be the first in everything. Which is why, Hello Kitty, Singapore Pools and NDP Tickets (in the past, that is. Thank God for e-balloting) rake in snaking queues, with some even camping the night before.

Its good to be kiasu in some things, but there has to be a cut-off..

Unless an individual starts making a change in attitudes, expect to see more of this..

Who knows, we might even top, yet another list..

Mr NDP reports back..

Aight, a little overdue..

Outside the stadium..

The crowd, at 5pm. Just about when the Pre-parade segment was about to kick-off..

Pre-parade begins.. Mum gets into the mood.. (below)

The Red Lions make their mark.. Literally..

The Parade proper.. Every time the National Anthem plays in the grand old lady, with 60,000 strong belting it out in unison, a tear just starts formulating..

Show segment begins.. As the little ones start running away.. Oh, one NTUC dude collapsed.. During the parade that is..

Provost segment.. With pyro shooting out..

Show segment, final act..

And then, it began.. In its rich and colourful splendour.. The fireworks display..

Beautiful, no?

When Tragedy strikes...

We often seem to take people for granted. What if, one day, God robs us of those whom we hold ever so dear, away from us. Into His land, wherever that may be..

Today, I attended a wake. An army friend whose Mum passed on last night. She had been stricken with stroke since we were in JC, and watching the proceedings go, brought me into a self-reflective mode. Especially since he lost his father as a kid, and has to deal with the latest demise..

What happens, when the ones whom we lean to, the beautiful people who provides us a home to live in, pocket money for the day/week/month, just disappears. Are we ready, to deal with such a loss?

To be honest, I'm not. Yet, does that mean I'd give up?

Its amazing, how He deals with us such tragedies, yet mould us, into stronger people. Looking at Ang Kiat, I only have admiration at how he's been a very filial son. One, who never shirks his responsibilities, and even throughout the wake, there seemed a little peace in his eyes.

That he knows, that his mum is in a place, free of pain. How do we know, if there even exists, such a place??

Faith.. =)

Heels & Faces...

Lemme introduce to you, the following terminologies from WWE..

Face - A face character is one, whereby everyone likes him/her. Some are the type, that appeals to the masses because of their popularity, charisma and persona. Some just do the right thing, and that makes him/her a face. Hulk Hogan's a popular one..

Heel - Ah, my favorites. Simply put, the bad guys. The ones that sneak around, psyching up the faces, and giving it to them, when they least expect it. Ah, Randy Orton...

So what are you, a heel, or a face??

I do not know whether I'm a face anot, but I do have, my heel-like tendencies. And they come out, when you least expect it, especially on those with that huge-ass ego. Why?

Maybe I expect every mother-son to be someone who's nice. Someone that probably won't shoot you that one proverbial comment that lights up that banner in my head - WHAT THE HELL??

Many a people have told me - "Karthik, your ego's definitely gonna hurt you back one day." I believe these people deserve it, and when I feel its the right time to hit 'em straight up, I would.

My style's simple. I rarely shoot back stuff that brings others to their knees. I do it, the low-blow way. Cheap, yet effective. Ugly, but somehow convenient..

Which is why, I should start, an Ego-killing list. Or rather, I've already had some victims on it.

Call me, the Ego-killer...

PS Whatever happened to the demure people in the world?? I wonder.. =)

Every 9th Auguest, my heart feels a certain lost. An amount of immeasureable grief.

Of what could have been, had it been averted that fateful day.

Yes, I am talking about my one true love.

Rosemarie.

Its been two years, my love. Yet I somehow miss you. Very much. Deeply.

Rest in 6 pieces, my dear quail.

Happy National Day everyone!!!!
